North West Sustainable Horse Demonstration Farm
works to promote the ~ often Overlooked~ Equine Side of Sustainability. Take a break from your books & Take a Walk around the Wetlands! a 15 minute tour can be combined with a visit to the Dexter Lake Farmers Market starting May 19th.
Our 9 acre Demonstration Farm is located only 15-20 minutes from the University of Oregon, below Dexter Lake.
Sustainable Horse Keeping methods will be demonstrated as well as erosion control techniques and solutions to soil compaction through planting and management. This is a unique and working example of an AVERAGE horse property with a wetland restoration in progress.
Topics covered are horse welfare, barn waste reuse, invasive and toxic plant identification and Horse Herb Gardening.
Study and experimentation by undergraduate or graduate students is encouraged.
~No Dogs with the exception of very small, sweet doggies.
(Due to a very tragic dog vs. horse accident in the past).
